Requirement to regularly change primary password

With developments in information technology (IT), the AMU network's existing rules on creating passwords and on the duration of their validity are no longer sufficient. This was also pointed out by a security audit of the AMU computer network conducted at the end of last year.

This resulted in the issuance of Guideline of the Bursar No. 2/2019 – "Rules for creation, properties and changes of the access password to the AMU computer network". The guideline stipulates what parameters the password should fulfill as well as a requirement to change it at least every 18 months. You will be notified by email when it is time to change your password. In addition, information about the validity of your password is available on the AMU Intranet and in KOS (with red highlighting if it will expire soon).

Since there has not previously been a requirement to change passwords regularly, many users have passwords that are several years old. For this reason, all users must change their passwords by 31 May 2019 except for those who have changed their passwords after 1 January 2019.

Which password does this concern

Users of the AMU network will encounter several passwords. The primary password is used to log into computers on the AMU network, to log into KOS, email, Moodle, the AMU Intranet, etc. There may also be a password for Wi-Fi eduroam, and certain users may have additional passwords for specific applications.

The requirement to change your password by 31 May 2019 and every 18 months thereafter applies to the first password mentioned, the so-called primary password.

How to proceed

Please change your password in the standard manner, i.e. on the AMU Intranet where you can log in using your username and current primary password. Under the Osobní údaje option, select Změna hlavního hesla. You will be asked to enter your current primary password again and then to enter your new password twice.

You can read the requirements for new passwords on the Change Primary Password page.

You can find out how long your current password will be valid by logging into the AMU Intranet (on the homepage) or by logging into KOS.

What if I encounter a problem

If you encounter a problem (this can occur in particular if you have a very old password), please contact your faculty IT administrator. Alternatively, you can contact the AMU Computer Centre on tel. 234 244 508.

What will happen if I don't do anything

If you do not change your password by 31 May 2019, you will be unable to log into any applications that require your primary password. In such a case, you will have to request a new password from your faculty IT administrator or from the AMU Computer Centre. Your account on the AMU network will still be active (emails will arrive, card access will work, etc.), but you will not be able to log in. You will not lose any data.
