Microsoft Copilot

In the Microsoft 365 environment, the generative artificial intelligence Copilot is available in several variants. On this page, you will find basic information about two of them - Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat

Copilot Chat is a tool integrated into the Microsoft 365 environment that enables communication in natural language and provides support with various tasks.

It is available to all AMU users who have access to Microsoft 365. No additional paid license is required to use it.

Benefits of using Copilot with a school account

Using Copilot through a Microsoft 365 school account ensures active protection of organizational data. Data provided to the artificial intelligence does not leave the organization and is not used for further training of AI models.

Active organizational data protection is indicated by a green shield icon and the text Organizational data protection applies to this chat.

What Copilot Chat can do

• Explaining and learning - clarifies concepts, creates summaries, or offers examples on a given topic.
• Searching for information - quickly provides basic overviews, definitions, or explanations of topics.
• Writing and editing texts - suggests document structure, helps with phrasing, improves clarity or shortens the text.
• Text revision - recommends simplifications, clarifications, or language corrections.
• Text translation - translates texts between various languages and suggests appropriate wording based on context.
• Working with data and tables - helps with calculations, table edits, chart creation, or interpretation of results.
• Material preparation - proposes presentations, outlines, worksheets, and other supporting materials.
• Image generation - creates illustrations, diagrams, previews, or other visual materials based on text descriptions.
• Work organization - prepares task lists, schedules, or overviews.
• Administrative support - drafts minutes, document summaries, or email suggestions.
• Programming - helps with creating or modifying code, explains programming concepts, or finds errors.

Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a paid version of generative artificial intelligence integrated directly into Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and others. Unlike Copilot Chat, which acts as a standalone chat tool, Copilot brings AI features directly into each application environment and has access to your data on OneDrive and SharePoint.

What Microsoft 365 Copilot offers in apps

• Word - text generation, document structure suggestions, content summaries, style and tone adjustments.
• Excel - data analysis, formula creation, chart generation, trend interpretation.
• PowerPoint - automatic presentation creation, slide suggestions, visual materials.
• Outlook - response suggestions, summaries of long email threads, meeting planning.
• Teams - meeting summaries, note generation, task suggestions.

Access to data in Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 Copilot works with data to which the user has authorized access, including documents and files on OneDrive and SharePoint (as well as emails, calendars, Teams chats, etc.). Copilot relies on this data when generating answers and follows the same permissions and security rules as the rest of Microsoft 365, ensuring it never reveals content you do not have access rights to.

Licensing

Microsoft 365 Copilot is not part of the standard Microsoft 365 license. To use it, an additional paid license must be purchased, which requires internal funding from the applicant's department.

To order a license, contact Helpdesk IT. You will receive an order form where you must fill in:

• The required number of licenses
• The users for whom the license is intended
• The cost center that will cover the license

The price for 1 user license is approximately 420 CZK per month excluding VAT, and payment is always required for the full period until the contract anniversary (31 December). Monthly billing is not possible.

Other AI tools

A wide range of other advanced artificial intelligence tools is available online, which can be used for writing, data analysis, translation, programming, and other tasks.

When using them, always consider the following:

• Support for other AI tools from the AMU Computer Centre is minimal.
• Their funding must be covered from your own resources.
• Carefully review the licensing conditions and personal data processing policies before use.
• Check whether and how the given tool learns from submitted data - this is essential, especially when working with sensitive or student data.
