Picking up a school laptop
Computers and laptops
Students Teachers EmployeesIf you are to receive a new or reinstalled work laptop with the Windows operating system, you must go to the appropriate IT department according to your location at AMU, where an IT staff member will go through the following things with you. Completing these steps usually takes 20 to 30 minutes.
Apple laptops with macOS are not centrally supported or managed at AMU, and the information below does not apply to them.
- First login to the notebook, which will create your personal user profile on it - this requires connecting the notebook to the AMU internal network. To log in, use your Login credentials to the AMU network.
- First multifactor verification (MFA) for Microsoft 365 services.
- First launch of Outlook, where your email address will be checked and your mailbox synchronized.
- First launch of OneDrive, where all your OneDrive files will be synchronized to the notebook in Files-On-Demand mode. You can also ask an IT staff member to adjust the synchronization mode and set up automatic synchronization for the Documents, Pictures, and Desktop folders.
- Connecting the required SharePoint document libraries to the OneDrive client so that their content is accessible through File Explorer. You can find a list of all available SharePoints here. Please decide in advance which SharePoints you will need to connect.
- First launch of Teams and checking its functionality.
- Installation of iFIS and iKOS if you need access to these applications.
- Installation of other applications that you may need for your work.
- Connecting the notebook to the eduroam Wi-Fi network for which you have a specific password - if you don't know it, you can set a new one according to the instructions.
- Setting up Cisco AnyConnect VPN for access to the AMU internal network from the internet.
Subsequently, you can discuss your questions regarding the new or reinstalled notebook with the IT staff.
We do not normally provide bags or cases for notebooks. At the rectorate, we can only lend you a bag to take the notebook home.
